Terra Firma

from $150.00

Terra Firma is a high-altitude aerial fine art photograph exploring scale, distance, and the experience of seeing the Earth from above. Photographed in 2012 while flying over the Grand Canyon, the elevated perspective transforms immense geological formations into layers of ridges, fractures, color, and form beneath scattered clouds.

From this distance, recognizable terrain begins to approach abstraction. The scale of the canyon becomes difficult to measure, while atmospheric depth and the expansive blue sky alter the relationship between viewer and land. The photograph considers how a change in perspective can make something monumental appear both distant and intimate, revealing patterns within the landscape that are difficult to perceive from the ground.

Part of the Held Place series in the Earthbound Collection, Terra Firma continues an ongoing photographic exploration of light as an emotional expression of place. Here, distance becomes part of that experience, allowing the familiar relationship between landscape, atmosphere, and horizon to be reconsidered from high above.

Printed on archival Hahnemühle Pearl Giclée paper, Terra Firma is presented unframed and available in four sizes:

  • 8 × 12 in (21 × 30 cm) — Open Edition — $150

  • 12 × 16 in (30 × 40 cm) — Limited Edition of 25 — $335
