After the Divide — Light III
In Light III, the structure of Shedding becomes increasingly abstract. Large circular openings and narrow connecting forms create a composition of repetition and interruption, while traces of warm yellow move through an otherwise restrained field of white and pale gray.
The close perspective separates the sculpture from conventional scale, allowing its openings and intersections to function almost as an independent geometric language. Scratches, repairs, and variations in the surface remain visible.
Created after Shedding was damaged during Hurricane Helene and subsequently repaired and reworked, Light III belongs to After the Divide, a series that examines how damage, intervention, and continuation can become embedded in an artwork's visual identity.
Each photograph is part of After the Divide, a photographic series created from Shedding, an original sculpture that was damaged during Hurricane Helene and subsequently repaired and reworked. Rather than concealing the sculpture's history, the photographs preserve its altered surfaces, marks, openings, and intersections as part of the work.
