After the Divide — Light I
Light I opens the light sequence with an almost monochromatic study of Shedding. Intersecting white forms move across a pale field, allowing the sculpture's openings, repaired surfaces, subtle discolorations, and hand-worked texture to remain visible.
Photographed after the sculpture was damaged during Hurricane Helene and subsequently repaired and reworked, the image transforms evidence of that experience into part of its composition. Light softens the boundaries between foreground and background while revealing the physical history held within the sculpture's surface.
As part of After the Divide, Light I considers what remains visible after disruption and repair: not restoration to an untouched state, but a changed object allowed to carry its history forward.
Each photograph is part of After the Divide, a photographic series created from Shedding, an original sculpture that was damaged during Hurricane Helene and subsequently repaired and reworked. Rather than concealing the sculpture's history, the photographs preserve its altered surfaces, marks, openings, and intersections as part of the work.
